GG4 (Gorilla Glue #4) was bred accidentally by GG Strains — a hermaphrodite Chem's Sister pollinated Sour Dubb and Chocolate Diesel plants, creating seeds that were initially discarded. A friend recovered the seeds and grew them out, discovering exceptional potency and aromatic quality. The numbered phenotype system (#1, #4) emerged from selecting the best-performing plants. GG4 (#4) was the standout, testing at 27–30% THC and winning multiple 2014 Cannabis Cups before GG Strains formalised the genetics.

GG4's extraordinary stickiness comes from exceptional trichome density and resin production from its Chem's Sister genetics. The trichomes are so abundant that breaking up GG4 buds coats fingers in a thick, glue-like layer of resin — the direct inspiration for the 'Gorilla Glue' name.
